Stupid Radio Stunts

Today’s post is a bit different, but still more of the same. I had planned to comment on a few other things today but I just spent the last 20 minutes getting rid of all the SPAM, so here goes…..

I pay attention to the local radio message board, if you can call http://www.redandnater.com a radio message board. Half of it is crap, so I won’t blame you if you don’t read it.

Anyways, I came accross people wondering what was up with our local Clear Channel Oldies station, KOOL 108. So, being the detective that I am, I punched up their website, which had a pretty weird flash page saying “Coming Soon…..PETE!” With pictures of different Pete’s or Peter’s (Peter Griffin, Peter Brady, Peter Pan)

At this point I’m thinking “Gee what could this be, it couldn’t be another “Jack” since Infinity owns that format in this market, and even by a different name, that would be STUPID. Then I look back and go “Since when has Clear Channel been smart?” So at this point, I’m still interested. So I figure that I would check it out Monday morning at 8 to see what all the fuss was going to be about. The DJ thanks you for listening to the station, hmm, sounds like the end of a 25 year radio station, but for what? So they go into a few minutes of “Stunting” and at 8, they announce a “No Repeat week”

LAME!!! Don’t you morons realize thats the reason that we aren’t listening to radio anymore? Stupid little tricks that you play, driving more and more listeners to XM, Sirius and IPODS. And I used to be a big RADIO FAN. Hmmmmmm. So for one week, your going to not play any repeats, and then its back to business as usual? Way to lie to the listeners (which they didnt flat out do, but they did make it sound like the end of the station.)

So for this week, we will hear probably 2000 songs, which is the library they have, and then on Monday they will go back to a 400 song playlist? Thank you Clear Channel for reaffirming why I went with XM. Because I didnt want to be treated like a moron.
